Poem: Love poem #4

This is the fourth and last of a tranche of love poems from 1996

Isn’t this very like love-making
1996

Isn’t this very like love-making?
It isn’t putting the dishes into the sink.
It isn’t working hard to pay the bills,
and it certainly isn’t writing you a letter.
But surely this is very like love-making

Isn’t this very like love-making?
It isn’t hoovering behind that heavy cupboard
It isn’t hoovering under the bed where the suitcases are.
It isn’t reading that book which I need to do,
and it certainly isn’t asking you about your day.
But surely this is very like love-making

Isn’t this very like love-making?
It isn’t wiping the cheese from the door of the fridge
It isn’t rewiring the cable on the kettle,
It isn’t filling in my tax return,
and it certainly isn‘t telling you that
I want to look after you.
But surely this is very like love-making.
